FSS is a “beacon of hope” for Missoula Family

Hello!

Latasha Wolfchild and sons.

My name is Latasha Wolfchild, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself. I have enjoyed a rewarding 14-year career as a teacher, but I am now transitioning into a new chapter as a travel agent and starting training as a CNA. This exciting change allows me to combine my passion for travel with the opportunity to be more present for my three amazing boys. I have one son in high school and two in elementary school, and they inspire me every day with their curiosity and enthusiasm for life.

When I first heard about the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program, I was hopeful but skeptical. As a single parent with three young boys, I often felt overwhelmed by the challenges of providing a stable and secure life for my family. I knew that I wanted to create a better future for my children, but I didn't know how to get there on my own. The FSS program presented a promising opportunity to change that.

Enrolling in the program was a pivotal moment for our family. From the beginning, I was struck by the support and resources available. The program provided me with a mentor/coach Rebecca Stancil and Kathleen Irwin (program specialist ) who took the time to understand my family's needs, goals, and aspirations. Together, we developed a personalized plan that included education, job training, and financial literacy—all essential components in breaking the cycle of dependency.

Perhaps the most profound change has been in my family's outlook. The FSS program instilled a sense of hope and motivation in us. My boys began to see that their dreams were attainable, and I made it a priority to involve them in our journey toward self-sufficiency. We set goals together, whether it was saving for a family trip or planning for their future education. This collaborative effort has strengthened our bonds and fostered a collective sense of responsibility.

Today, as I reflect on the past few years, I am grateful for the impact that the FSS program has had on my family. We are no longer just surviving; we are thriving. I am on the path to a small business owner, and my boys are excelling in school, inspired by the determination we’ve built together. The FSS program has not just transformed our circumstances; it has shaped our aspirations and fortified our belief in ourselves.

All in all , the Family Self-Sufficiency program has been a beacon of hope for me and my family. It equipped us with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the challenges of life and build a brighter future. I am now passionate about helping others discover the potential within themselves, just as I was empowered to do, and I look forward to the journey ahead.

Thank you,

Latasha Wolfchild
