MHA Appoints Sam Oliver as Executive Director

MISSOULA, MONTANA (April 12, 2023) – The Missoula Housing Authority Board of Commissioners appointed Sam Oliver as Executive Director. Oliver is the first new Executive Director in 14 years following the retirement of Lori Davidson who held the position starting in 2008 and retired from MHA after more than 25 years of service.

“The Housing Authority Board of Commissioners is thrilled to have found in Sam an Executive Director with the diverse skills and the dedication required to lead this work,” says Kaia Peterson, Chair of the MHA Board of Commissioners.  “We are excited to support him in this new role, and work with the whole Housing Authority team, as the organization continues to play a vital role in meeting Missoula’s housing needs.”

Before his appointment, Oliver held a senior position as Project Manager for Bristlecone Development – the development and construction arm of Missoula Housing Authority – for eleven years. He has over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in construction project management spanning historic, residential, and commercial rehabilitation, renovation, and new construction.

Oliver stepped into the role as Executive Director of Missoula Housing Authority on January 1, 2023, and is currently overseeing $121 million in construction that will deliver 404 new affordable housing units to the Missoula area this year.

Regarding his new role, Oliver says, “The Missoula Housing Authority has been providing housing options that our neighbors can afford for over 40 years. It is my priority to continue finding innovative ways to offer quality, affordable housing for all Missoulians. I am excited to lead a strong organization with a talented team as we work to elevate the MHA mission together.”
