Housing Choice Vouchers
Housing Choice Vouchers make private-market housing affordable for low-income families and individuals. The Missoula Housing Authority administers Housing Choice Voucher—commonly called Section 8—and forms a partnership with participants and landlords to provide housing opportunities throughout the city of Missoula and within a 10-mile radius outside the city limits.
Through the Housing Choice Voucher program, over 1000 families have been provided an opportunity to secure quality housing in neighborhoods of their choice in Missoula.
Voucher recipients rent from a private landlord of their choice who is willing to participate in the Housing Choice program. Participants pay 30% of their income toward rent. Wait time of 1 to 4 years.
To be eligible, applicants’ household income must be at or below 50% of the area median income. People eligible for vouchers are chosen from a waiting list.

Make sure you provide a complete MAILING ADDRESS. If you do not provide a mailing address, your application will be put on hold for 30 days. If a valid mailing address is not provided after 30 days, your application will be rejected.

IMPORTANT: If your name comes to the top of the list, you will be notified via mail. MHA recommends you keep in contact with us by logging into your online account from time to time. You also need to update your mailing address if it changes. Every year, MHA sends correspondence to your MAILING ADDRESS on file asking if you wish to remain on the waiting list. If your mailing address is not kept up to date and you do not respond to your mail, you will be removed from all waiting lists.
