• What is the Family Self Sufficiency Program?
The program will help low and moderate income households set goals to achieve financial self-sufficiency.
Participants create their own goals, and with the help of the FSS Coordinator, work to accomplish these goals.
Your household can take up to five years to reach its goals.  If your household is willing to set and meet personal and professional goals, then this program is for you!

  • Who is eligible for Family Self Sufficiency?
The FSS Program is available to qualifying clients participating in MHA Programs but there are limited spots available.

  • How do I sign up?
First complete the attached Application of Interest and return it to MHA.  You will be contacted by the FSS Director.  If you cannot print the attachment please call or come by the MHA offices, (406) 549-4113.

  • What are my obligations?

    — You must come up with a plan to reach your goals.
    — Keep the FFS Director informed of income and household changes.
    — Follow up on referrals to resources and support services
    — Follow your contracted timeline for success.
    — Notify your FSS Coordinator of any changes you feel necessary to your five-year plan.

  • What are MHA’s obligations?

    — MHA will attempt to provide, both directly and indirectly, the resources and supportive services you need to become more financially independent.

    — As your earned income grows, MHA will establish an escrow account.  An amount roughly equal to the increased portion of your rent will be placed monthly into an Escrow Account.

  • What can I use my FSS escrow money for?
Your escrow money is unrestricted, meaning you may use the money to purchase a home, pay off debt, buy a reliable car or take care of other family needs.
