Missoula Housing Authority’s Public Housing portfolio totals 174 rental units located within the City of Missoula and within a ten mile radius. These units are owned and operated by MHA. Rent levels in Public Housing are approximately 30% of the household's monthly adjusted income. Additional operating costs are paid by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Not all low-income persons qualify to live in public housing. The Missoula Housing Authority screens its applicant carefully and is required to eliminate persons who are active drug users, sexual predators and those who have committed violent or drug related crimes recently. It also checks past rental references, any previous public housing rental records and credit reports.
